REBECCA SPIKINGS

Drawing and making has been my passion ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I think it is in my genes, my dad was an art teacher, printmaker and painter. I loved going out sketching with him when I was young, and both my sister and I have gone on to have creative careers, although it took me a while to earn money from my work.

After achieving a BA Hons degree in fine art illustration from Bradford School of Art Design and Textiles, I went on to do a number of jobs. From working behind a bar in a restaurant in Spain, to framing artwork for a company in London and conserving and restoring letters and books for institutions such as the British Museum and the Imperial War Museum.

A fair few years after graduating I found Inspire Art Licensing, and in 2005 I was finally creating artwork and working as a freelance designer. I have been happily creating designs for paper products, ceramics and textiles ever since. I enjoy being part of the team at Inspire Art Licensing, and am grateful that I can draw everyday and get paid for doing something that I love. I get a real buzz seeing my work used on products and in the shops, and relish working in an ever changing industry where I am constantly learning.

My two daughters are my greatest achievements and along with their dad my favourite people to spend time with. When I’m not designing I love hanging out with them. We’re always happiest when we’re outdoors, especially on the beach or by the sea. We’re planning to move to live by the coast and have many more seaside adventures.
