DAWN QUIGG

Some of my first memories are of drawing from around the age of five, I still have the how to draw book where I used to copy the final images of wild animals to practice my drawing skills. I knew from early on that my love of drawing is what I wanted to do and I was determined to have a career in art. I collect children's books which are always a good source of inspiration, but you can also find me looking through magazines, the internet and taking a huge amount of photos on my phone of things around me including my family for inspiration.

I’m now a Freelance Illustrator and designer based in Northhamptonshire, England with the support of my Husband and my young Son. I studied Illustration at Hereford college of art and design and went on to become a surface pattern designer for a ceramics company for four years. I moved to Northamptonshire to work as an illustrator and designer for a major greetings card publisher. I worked in house for ten years, it was during this time that I met my husband. Since starting a family in 2018 I have been working as a freelance illustrator, I'm enjoying the new challenges this brings and it gives me the flexibility to raise my son who is already starting to follow in his mummy's foot steps for the love of art.

I love to create illustrations outside of the computer using pastels, acrylics, pencil, watercolour and many other mediums but then bring the artwork into the computer to produce a finished Illustration. I have many different styles from traditional to modern and I love all subject matter including figurative, floral, scenic and character. I’m always trying new things to grow my knowledge of art, Illustration and design.

As well as commercial illustrations I do private commissions of portraits, pet portraits and lettering. It gives me great pleasure to know they will be enjoyed for many years.

In my spare time I love to up cycling furniture, going to concerts and the cinema, felting, DIY, gardening and baking all while juggling home life. My boy definitely enjoys exploring our garden and the whole family love my banana bread and chocolate cakes.

We love to go walking and holidaying by the coast or the Lakes where I always keep a sketchbook to hand and take many photos of my surroundings, the amazing light in these places gives me so much inspiration in my work.
